Remembering Dinkies Sithole

It is with sadness that I write about the passing away of Soweto based artist Dinkies Sithole. Dinkies was a friend and colleague at The Bag Factory Artist Sudio in Fordsburg. He will be remembered for his tap dancing performances, and great enthusiasm for the arts. I am going to miss chatting to him about his crazy ideas for public performances in the dust bowls of Soweto. Here is a link to an obituary to Dinkies Sithole, by Rat Western on Arthrob

I am just so sad to hear of Dinkies death. Just the other day, for some reason his name slipped my lips in a totally unrelated conversation: his phone was forever off and I just assumed he was off somewhere on a residency or something, thinking ah well, one of these days we’d make contact by chance and have coffee, a chat and always a laugh. I have been thinking of popping by the Bag Factory and haven’t….maybe that’s a good thing as it would have been awful to pitch up and ask after him and be told he’d died. I wish I had at least been able to pay my last respects….but it’s done. Any idea what happened? He always seemed so resilient.

I’m so going to miss that possibility of a laugh with Dinks

I’m not sure what exactly happened – I’ve been told, Dinkies passed on from an AIDS related illness.
